Hi all

I use "uname -a" to find the version of SUN OS, but when I read some books and hear different things from people. I confuse. What is the different of:
SunOS 5.6
SunOS 5.8
Solaris 8, 6, 7
Solaris 2.6, 2.7, 2.8
..... and more ?
Which is what? and why the names are different? I remember once my instructor says it is commercial name and it is version name, blah blah... forget what he said !!
thanks

SunOS 5.x is Solaris 2.x but frequently only the x part is mentioned.

so SunOS 5.7 is Solaris 2.7 but is just called Solaris 7 The one thing you can't give for your heart's desire is your heart. - Lois McMaster Bujold
