What I want to do is have users go to our intranet site and click on a link that would install the network printer.

Currently users have to browse to \\print\ and this will bring up a listing of printers which they can double click on to install any one.

I would like to link to each printer through our intranet site i.e. \\print\sales
sales being the share name of the printer.

Is this even possible? It seem relatively simple but I cannot find any information regarding this. Thanks!

Obviously we can give them rights to do this as needed. We are just seeing if this is a viable concept or not. The idea is that we make a map of the office, color coded for each department and have links on the map to the printer the users can install. They click on the link and it install the printer.

Linking the printer objects in html seems to be the issue however. Does anyone know of a way to do this?

You'd need an object or something on the client side that can interact with the system....

How many user and printers? This just seems to be the wrong way to go about it. After i configured and installed active directory, with all the printer info and locations, etc... people could find their own pretty easily.

I am also looking for the same, to be implemented in a school, allowing teachers to choose which printer to print to, they have access to any. At the moment the Add Printer dialog is confusing for many, a simple few clicks web interface would be much better...

I have seen things saying that VBScript is the wrong way because it only works with IE, but we only have IE on the network. My confusion comes with running the script on the client side.

Any help appreciated,
Jamie

I have now got the theory behind HTAs sorted, and think they are the best solution for me, however am I right in thinking that they cannot query a database and for that I must use ASP?

I have many printers to choose from on our site, and so would like to keep them stored in a separate list for easy updating. Can anyone give me any tips as to how to integrate this into a HTA?
