I am running Gimp 2.2 on a Windows 98 (I know! :p). Anyway, when it is starting up, the screen says "Looking for data files - Fonts" and then the program stops. I have to press Control-Alt-Delete to get out of it. How can I fix this?

hi becky,

i'm new to GIMP myself, so no guarantees that this will work..

sounds like GIMP is looking in the wrong place for fonts and then getting hung up during its initialization.

you might want to have a look at your global gimprc file. it is located, depending on where you installed GIMP, somewhere like:

C:\Program Files\GIMP-2.0\etc\gimp\2.0

open the file 'gimprc' with wordpad and search for "font-path".. you should find something like:

# (font-path "${gimp_dir}/fonts:${gimp_data_dir}/fonts")

then, perhaps if you add the path of your windows fonts to this list, GIMP will be able to start up..

you may have to set the GIMP2_DIRECTORY environment variable to make this work..

read the text at the top of gimprc for more info

later,
marty.
