When I recently reinstalled Win98, Outlook Express started afresh with empty default folders and the only messages there now are ones I received since the reinstall. I know where the .dbx folders are that contain the old messages, but how can I open them in Outlook Express?

Barry,
if you have the location of the .dbx files that contain your old messages, here is what to do...
Start Outlook, go to Tools->Options, and then go to the 'Maintenance' tab, and in here, click on the 'Store Folder' button. This will give you the location of your current .dbx files. What you have to do is enter the location of your older .dbx files into here. The location should be something like...
C:\WINDOWS\Application Data\Identities\{E47EBD0F-54D7-11D4-A667-B4A565C94A3C}\Microsoft\Outlook Express

NOTE: Once you do this, you will not have access to the mail you currently have in your inbox, sent items, etc. If you want, you should copy those mails into a folder on your desktop or somewhere, by simpily selecting all the mails in the folder, (ctrl+A) then drag and drop them into the folder(s) (for ease, create folders called inbox and sent items etc, and move to the corrosponding folders) you just created on your desktop.
Then once you change your message store location, drag them back into your inbox etc and you will have all your mails!! Good Luck! Jay~

Thanks Jay, I could never have worked that out on my own.
