Hi

I am working with Approach Millenium edition release 9

I have a reference field (call it "A") which is changable depending on whether or not another field (call it "B") is blank or contains data (simple enough).

However when I import data into these records and fill field "B" with data, it does not update field "A".

If I duplicate the record after import then it works OK but that means having to change other fields as well and I am trying to make life easy for myself.

Any tips or advice anyone can give me to get field "A" to update automatically on import would be terrific.

Thanks

Endy.

Is that rel 9.0 of Approach or one of the other five 9.x releases (9.1 - 9.8)?

>>a reference field (call it "A") which is changable<<

In Field Definition, is there is a default creation or modification formula defined for this field?

If the answer to both is Yes, it's a bug; the field should be updated when records are added by an import. Rel 9.0 is very buggy. Upgrading to 9.5 or later should fix it, 9.7 or 9.8 is recommended.

Hi Paul

Thanks for the info.

Yes "field A" has a creation formula in it, which works fine when I import the data originally, however when I import extra data to the record into "field B", the "field A" will not update.

Is this due to the bug and if so where can I get the upgrade on-line.

Many thanks

Endy.

Ah ha! That isn't a bug; a creation formula only fires when a record is created. Change it to a modification formula and it will fire when a record is both modified and created.

If you are using 9.0, I would still recomend upgrading. SmartSuite 9.8 is the current release. 9.7 and 9.6 are available at clearance prices. If you search Google you should find them for less than $20.

If you decide to go for 9.8, there's a must have patch:
