How can I get a resource to auto respond to meeting requests?

I am using outlook 2000 running on Exchange server 5.5. I have set up our conference room as a resource but don't know how to get the resource to suto respond to emails so that it can accept or decline meetings. At the moment, people think they have booked it and then it ends up being double booked and nothing showing up in the conference room calendar as it hasn't opened the mail!

Can anybody suggest something please, I tried setting up a rule but it doesn't seem to have worked.
