Is there any string to force a connection of 44k/s or higher, (or if it doesnt connect at that speed it will disconnect and reconnect)

AT&u and at&n are probably available at that speed. I don't have a 56k to check on.
Try at&$ to see. Ed Fair

this did not work on my modem.
I have a 3com US Robotics 56k fax modem with the latest drivers installed.

If the help shows that they are available at the speed you want, you can put them in the initialization string.
I can only verify that they work on 33.6s locking into 9600 by using the init, both under dos and under unix. Ed Fair
