How Can I Filter E-mail?

Could someone please provide any method(s) for filtering e-mail. The biggest concern I have is trying to block unwanted ads and unwanted porn e-mails.

As most email software supports rulesets, just program rules looking for objectionable words or words common to those advertisements, and set the rule action to delete the messages found to contain these words.

A note of caution: These will be deleted regardless of intent. A message from a companion containing any of the disallowed material, joke list emails, etc will all get targeted.
