i have installed the informix dynamic server 9.4 in a machine with windows 2000 and i want to connect to that server from a machine with win XP Pro by the mean of odbc but even i´m not able to watch this server in windows 2000 machine. it's strange how i can see the server in WinXp pro from a machine with WinXp Home but from the machine with XP pro i can't see neither the server in the machine with win2000 nor the server in the machine with XP home.

in the odbc from win xp pro i put the following data:

host name: win2000
service: turbo
protocolo :eek:lsoctcp

but in the field data base i can´t see any db
the error message is [informix][informix odbcdriver][informix]cannot locate turbo service/tcp service/ in /etc/services

the informix dinamyc server is a trial version y download from ibm

please help me .

thanks

I'm not too familiar with the Turbo Service but am familiar with ODBC.

You need to check your services file on the workstation (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\services) to make sure the port number for the turbo service matches the port number for this service on server. Also check the sqlhosts file (INFORMIXDIR/etc/sqlhost) on the server to make sure this service is specified.

You also need to check the hosts file on your workstation (c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc\hosts) and make sure there is an entry for the server.

Once this is all correct you need

1) server host name
2) Informix Online Server Name
3) service type (turbo)
4) User Name
5) Password

Once all these things are taken care of use the DBPING Utility that comes with the Informix SDK to check all forms of connectivity.

Good luck!
