On my home machine, my wife spends a lot of time at Healthboards.com. A month or so ago some hostility arose between the older board members and the new. Essentially, the new didn't like the old. The hostility escalated to the point where the moderator began refusing to allow the older members on the board, which is really affecting my wife. She just loves to post (over 600 posts in four months).

At anyrate my wife tried being a different person with a different email account, but the board was able to recognize our pc.

Is there a way for a pc to be more annonymous?

Thank you,

Gary (akbryer)

The board probably placed a cookie on your machine. Use a tool like CookieMonster to find and delete it.

or probably ur ISP assigns u the same IP address, and thats how the guys recognized u. or that might be completely wrong. sorry, i suppose that doesnt help much...

Or go through a service like anonymizer. I think it blocks cookies, too.

Their are many ways you can be tracked on the internet. The most prevalent, unless you get into really indepth security, is cookies and your ip address. Any time that you log on to the internet you are issued a static IP address. A unique identifier that allows data to be transmitted to your machine as well as you to transmit data. Their are severeal ways to bypass this but the most convenient is by using a proxy. A proxy basically acts as a forwarding service, takes your packets and forwards them to the next host. The easiest ones are at ->this one allows you to connect to any site and acts a virtual proxy, probably be the best way to go...........

The other thing is cookies, basically cookies are small text files on your computer. A site can download one and modify the contents. This is probably what is going on, and you will simply need to delete all the cookies in your browser. To do this it depends on your browser. If you use Internet Explorer, simply delete all the conents of the c:\windows\temporary internet files\ directory and this will remove all cookies. Netscape has a similar setup, i believe the path is c:\program files\netscape\users\cookies\ and just delete all cookies.

good luck and email me if you can't figure it out.........
