How can I be sure that mail is complete

Hi,

I have a sendmail pop-account where I got emails with big attachments and from a lot of senders with slow modem-lines.

I check the emails automatic by a program written in Perl.
This program picks up the mails about a pop-connection, extract a lot of informations and work with this informations.

Now I have had trouble with large attachments (1 MB) if it was cut up and I am not sure why.

Is it possible that I got a email from the pop-connection which is not complete on the server?
If so, how can I prevent this problem?
