How can I add an MPEG to my flash project?

I need to add an MPEG to my flash project, but flash won't recognize that type of file. I tried to use v2swf conversion program but I don't want to spend $25 just for this small video conversion. Any ideas?

you can utilise TMPGEnc to convert your MPEG to a BMP sequence which can then be imported as a sequence into flash:
