I want to build a hardware and then connect it to the PC's serial COM port. Then I want to communicate with this hardware by using a browser (IE or Netscape) to tonfigure tthe hardware. How can I get access to the COM port from a browser?
Any help is appreciated. Thanks, Manfred.

If you are a Windows kind of guy then you can use IE and some ActiveX objects... these small (ja!) applets can access ANYTHING in Windows...

I hope it works... [sig][/sig]

Roman, thanks for your reply.
I need a solution with no extra software on the PC, users would not accept it.
Just thinking about this: Users have to install a standard modem and my hardware has to act like such one. But there is a lot of overhead for my hardware.
What do you think about this way? Do you know a better solution?
Best, Manfred. [sig][/sig]

You may have an other possibillity to install ppp or Slip to run TCP/IP over a serial device or install a VPN. But these facilities are dependent on your OS. If you are running Windows NT Server it works. I do not not what happens with Windows 95/98. Perhaps you may install an other Winsock.Dll such as Trumpet or similar.
