JSP uses both. Typically the Web Container will look for a session cookie first, if one doesn't exist then it will look at the url parameters for the session id. This transparency makes things rather nice.
If the user has cookies turned off how is the
appended to the url? Is this done automatically or
is it the responsibility of the programmer to ensure
its always present?
