ACS R7 system with Mail VS 4.0. This is my first exposure to an Avaya Partner ACS system. I have the docs and if I'm reading them correctly the system should be able to receive an incoming FAX call and route it to the extension where the FAX machine is attached. This feature makes it un-necessary to dedicate a line to the FAX machine.

I have the extension programmed to be a FAX line but it never rings on an incoming FAX call and the AA answers. Any tricks or things to check before I spend even more time on this?

Partner Mail VS4 doesnt have fax detect and doesn't mesh well with the ACS R7.

However, you would put the Fax extension into Hunt Group 8, and assign all the lines to be answered by the Auto Attendant. The ACS will detect the CNG tone during the AA greeting and automatically transfer the call to 778, which contains the Fax extension.

Just had a customer set up their FAX line that way, so they could use it to check messages without going through the receptionist.

Thanks Mr. TouchToneTommy. Your solution nailed it. The ACS 7.0 documentation is murky as to what combination of modules and releases is needed in order for CNG to be recognized.
