Hi experts..A general question regarding the full process which is involved in making a local call..What hardware of cs1000m takes part in making a call..From picking the hand set ,then dialing an extension and when picked up at the other end ...thanks

That depends on the type of phone used in making the call as IP sets route in a different way.

There are many methods as the Nortel system is very flexible which in turn means it can be very complex or easy to configure with many barring options and routing paths.

Generally speaking the IP sets start off via a Signalling Server and any wired phone would have either an Analogue or Digital card. This in turn would go through the system programming and end up leaving the system via a trunk which could be IP or PRI / Analogue etc.

Thanks Firebirdscrambler, can you explain the whole hardware or process for an analog

In the UK, some of us call it "PFM". I'll let you work that one out!.
The process for Analogue is really the same as mentioned before.

Yep, we just use "FM" here in the States. No need to complicate it. However, I do remember my first Nortel class. Option 21 thru 81 Installation and Maintenance. You truly do know how those machines work after that 2 week class. It was a fun class though. Those were the days.

They were indeed the days when you did a proper course and actually handled the kit with the intention of learning something worthwhile rather than off a computer screen or forums.
