How 2 set up serial communicaton on linux

Hi folks,
I´d like to control a basic-stamp via a
serial connection.
Is there any cli-program wich I can use
to send data via f.e. /dev/ttys2.
Maybe this is trivial, or not? I cannot find
any resource in the web about this.

Any suggestions ?
