I have a website up for a friend of mine, it's at <A HREF=" TARGET="_new"> am using FrontPage 2000, I run Windows 98, got a 475mhz Pentium III, 128 mb of ram, 10 gb drive, you probably don't need all that info, but sometimes when I ask for help people want to know what you got for some reason, oh well, on to my problem...

While trying to setup this website, I cannot seem to put hover buttons on the website! I have looked in help for FP2000...this is the 4th forum that I have posted this question, I have looked at 6 tutorials, nothing seems to help! I did find one thing...in the _fpclass directory there was nothing in there, I saved the hover button classes in _fpclass directory but it still won't work, any help would be appreciated...

spike232
mmccormick0@yahoo.com

[this is from Microsoft Knowledge Base Article ID: Q176900]
[<A HREF=" TARGET="_new">]

Start FrontPage Explorer.
On the File menu, click Open FrontPage Web.
In the Getting Started dialog box, click More Webs.

In the Open FrontPage Web dialog box, type the path for your Web, and then click List Webs.

Select your Web. Hey John, thanx again, and it did work, when I go into preview, it does show the active elements, but when I publish it to the web, it still shows just a grey box! In the preview it works good, everything is fine, but I when I publish it, it won't work!

spike232

Ok John I took a look at that page you listed, and it seems like I don't have FrontPage Explorer, I did'nt know that FrontPage Explorer and FrontPage Editor was different..when you lent me your disks, I may have forgotten/did'nt know to install the editor off the disks, I believe Tammy still has your disks, so I will get in touch with her, and see if I can them back so I can install the editor....

this helps out a great deal...

thanks

spike232

The reason it shows up as a grey box is because your monitor is set at 256 colors. I was designing a web site, and we experimented with different color settings to see what they looked like. They looked fine under the higher settings, but didn't come out at all under 256.

Linda Adams
Garridon@aol.com
<a href= Adams Online
I'm a professional writer, published internationally.

No I got my monitor set at True Color 32 bit...wich displays several million colors I think..so that's not the problem...

spike232

First of all check that you get the hover buttons in your preview mode.
If yes, and you dont get the hover buttons on the web, means that there is some problem in uploading. Have you uploaded with 'Publish' command ?

If no, then you have a basic problem. Checkout your, folder which stores the pages. Mostly its under 'FrontPage Webs\Content\your server name'. Here you should have a subfolder _fpclass containing two files : fphover.class and fphoverx.class. Check this out.

Yes, it shows up in the "preview in a browser" area, and no it does'nt show up on the web...also the file _fpclass does contain both of those classes, though I could'nt open them, maybe their corrupt? I don't know, but I know they won't show up on the web....I would still like to know what's going on with it but I already gave up on them...I just went to regular text...:(

spike232

Dear Spike232,
The folder FrontPage Webs\Content\_fpclass also contains, those two files. Try copying these files to "your folder\_fpclass\." and then upload the pages with the 'Publish' command.
Cudos to jvogel- My hover buttons were grey in preview on my 200p-pro using FP2K and WIN98. Reloaded JAVA from recommended site and everything works fine now. Many Thanks! [sig][/sig]

I had the same problem with just seeing the gray boxes.
Found that all I had to do was install Active X on the browser I was using to test my web site with.
Install the current Axtive X.

Let me know if it worked.
