Hotmail : semi-accessible

I used to access my hotmail by typing 'hotmail.com' into explorer address bar
THEN entering my Username/Password. This was fine for a while. NOW, when I enter 'hotmail.com', one of two things always happens. Either I get "cannot find server" message, OR hotmail.com let's to the page to enter Username/Password and THEN follows with "cannot locate server"

I have changed nothing on my computer (I think)
so what could be some causes? I am stumped, and everyone else I know has says their account works just fine;

Oh, one more thing, I CAN access hotmail by first going to

microsoft.com>msn.com>hotmail.com
however, typing 'msn.com' into browser gives same error, I can get there from the links only.

Are you typing www. bofore the address's? It sounds like your using hotmail to read your email, not outlook.

Yes, I am attempting to use hotmail to read my email. That's the way I have always done it. However that doesn't work now. Furthermore, typing "

http://www.hotmail.com"

results in the same error message. I am beginning to think it is a network problem, but I don't know what I need to check before I find myself jumping to the wrong conclusions.

It seems odd that sometimes I can access the account and sometoimes I cannot. To clarify; (Since my original post) I have been able to successfully access my email on a few occassions. However, on many occassions I was NOT able to access it.

I am about ready to give up on the account. I hoped someone here had a solution, but the best solution just may be to ditch hotmail.

Have you checked with Hotmail tech support to see if they have had any servers down? Hotmail, as of late, has not been the most reliable email alternative. Can you ping hotmail when ever you get the error?

I have a problem in that my Hotmail account is doing the same thing. It will bring up the log-in page but as soon as I hit the Submit button, my computer automatically goes to the "Cannot find Server" page. I've checked all the Internet Options as suggested and made sure the encryption is correct, so what do I do?? It's not just my email address, but anyone on my computer who tries to access their Hotmail account. It seems i get the message as soon as the submit button is pushed (???). Even if I leave the fields blank, the page shows up when I hit Submit. Can anyone help?? This is driving me crazy.....

I also have the same problem. Hotmail/Yahoo mail hangs after login. I'm running XP. I did recently install a cisco VPN and was told to set the MTU to 1400. I thought this caused the problem but the set reset the MTU back to default and hotmail/yahoo mail still doesn't work???
