I have a user on windows 95 and internet explorer 5. They had been using hotmail happily for a long time. But in the last week they have been unable to open or download any email attachments. They get an error message saying
"internet explorer cannot download.......... from .....
Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found. Please try again later."
They can download attachments from other machines.
Not knowing much about hotmail i've checked the obvious things cookies, java etc and all are enabled. I cannot upgrade the browser because ie6 will not run on win95 and this is the only browser microsoft has now.

can any one help?

Thanks

Mark

If you want to try a really good email client & Spam remover , this is very good .

I can look at my mail on the ISP's server , delete ( spam removal ) , reply , click on links & if I want it on my comp ,
click on Move to > Archive .
Use right click for most of the functions .

You can still leave any other email client installed . Just a matter of choosing which one you want as default .

Import Hotmail and Yahoo! Mail

To archive Web-based email, you should import your mail account into Outlook Express. Follow
these directions:

Go to your Start menu, single-click Programs, and then single-click the Outlook Express icon.
After launching the program, go to the Tools menu and choose Accounts.
Click the Mail tab. This is where you'll be spending most of your time setting up the various
wizards to import your Web-based email account.

Import Hotmail

Click the Add button and choose Mail.
Give the account a name and click the Next button.
Fill in your Hotmail email address and click the Next button.
In the Email Servers Name section, the incoming mail server should already be set to HTTP and the mail service provider should be set to Hotmail. Leave this page alone and click the Next button.
In the Internet Mail Logon screen, use your entire Hotmail email address as your logon name.
Type your password in the Password box and click the Next button.
Click Finish.
Close the Internet Account window.
You should see a pop-up window asking you if you'd like to download all the folders in your
account. Click OK.
Click the Send/Receive button to download the contents of those folders onto your system. The best part about Hotmail is that the messages remain on the server even after you've downloaded them.

HotMail Popper"

My wife uses Hotmail via Outlook Express. She has Norton
Antivirus active, but as you know NAV doesn't check incoming
HTML mail. Furthermore, Hotmail's spam rules were stopping to
much valid email. So I set up Hotmail Popper, a freeware
download at . As the site says,
"Hotmail Popper is a small application that allows you to
check your Hotmail account e-mail from a normal POP mail
client (such as Eudora). Unlike standard mail accounts which
allow users to retrieve their e-mail through a POP mail
client, Hotmail can normally only be checked on the web, or
via Outlook Express. With Hotmail Popper, you can use your
favorite POP mail client to retrieve your e-mail from your
Hotmail account."

By this route, her Hotmail email gets checked the same way her
other accounts do (we're connected by cable modem). She has
set up message rules to sort out spam. And she can still send
outgoing mail through our ISP's SMTP-type account (so NAV will
check it) but set her return address to make it look to the
recipient as if it's coming from her Hotmail account.
