I have seen several posts here regarding the above problem.
Mc Affee have a hotfix (Hotfix 27). To qoute from the readme:-
ABOUT THIS HOTFIX
PURPOSE
This HotFix provides six files for use with
VirusScan 4.5.1 SP1. These new files resolve
all of the outstanding issues listed in
"Resolved Issues."
RESOLVED ISSUES
1. ISSUE:
During an AutoUpdate, the update fails and
logs the error message "Cannot stop the
On-Access Scanner. The .DAT Update cannot
continue because the old .DAT files cannot
be replaced."
RESOLUTION:
This HotFix replaces the files WEBSCANX.EXE,
SCANEMAL.DLL and VSSTAT.EXE with newer
versions that prevent the AutoUpdate from
failing.
The hotfix basically replaces these files.
Has anyone else used this?
I have used it with 90% improvement, ie I now only have a handful of PCs still showing this problem.
