Hot to know if an application is already running

Hi,
I am invoking a standard exe EXE1 from another standard exe EXE2. I can invoke EXE1 any number of times. At the sametime, more than one instance of the exe may be running. If an error occurs in EXE2, I would like to be notified about the error. But the problem is, if more than 1 instances of EXE2 are running, then how do i know from which instance of the exe did the error occur?
Please help...
