IS-IT--Management
Hi all!
I'm taking over administration of a Netware server, using Backup Exec version 8.5.4108 to manage the backups onto DDS4 DAT tapes.
The previous administrators have labeled tapes with only "Monday", "Tuesday", etc., but with no dates. Although they rotate the same weekly set of tapes, the catalog has entries from months back.
I have two questions:
Question 1:
Today I was trying to restore a file, but was unable to, because BE was asking for a tape with a specific date, but I can't tell the dates that each tape contains. Is there a way to read the label on a tape? Is there a way to see how many separate backups are on a tape (assuming that the tapes were appended during backups)?
Question 2:
How do I clean up the catalog? I would like to erase the catalog, then put in each tape, ID the tape, and enter it into the catalog. This way, the all of the catalog entries will be valid for the tapes that currently exist.
Thanks in advance for your help!
Melissa
