hot sync after hard reset problem

I had to do a hard reset as I could not restore my Palm m500 after battery ran down witha soft reset. I had to erase all data (but it is backed up on PC).

When I try to hotsync I get the emssage "unable to initiate HotSync operation because the port is in use by another application.

Can anyone explain in simple terms (for a simple person) what the probelm is, please.

Are you using USB or serial? What version of Palm Desktop are you using? If it is serial, make sure that you've selected the same com port for the serial port you're actually plugged into - you can change these settings in the Hotsync Manager "setup" screen.
