How do I easily find out what the /dev/??? would be for this tape drive? There seems to be a list of 100's of definitions in the /dev directory, the obvious ones like rmt0 etc does not point to the tape drive.

Any advice will be very welcome.

Hi,

It should be either :

/dev/st0 (First SCSI tape, mode 0)

or

/dev/nst0 (First SCSI tape, mode 0, without automatic rewind)

You may also find that /dev/tape (symlink) works.

(/dev/rmt? devices in linux tend to be char major 12 devices - i.e. QIC tapes.)

Regards
