Is there anything that would stop one from replaceing the 4.3GB drive in a Proliant 3000 drive sled (199598-001) with a larger drive? The electronis on the sled look dumb, so I am guessing there wouldn't, but I have been known to be wrong. I should be able to replace it with any 68pin LVD drive, no? What would happen if I replaced the drive with one not specifically lables (Hot Plug), is there really any diffrence?

What about a SCA drive with an 80pin SCA to 68pin LVD converter, is there any drawbacks to using one?

I replaced a 4.3GB drive with an AtlasIV 18GB drive in the old red and white 1.6 inch sled. It appears to work fine. One thing to note is that if you wish to use RAID then your drive mechanisms need to be identical. I couldnt add an Atlas 18.3gb drive to a compaq 18.2gb drive array. I had to create a 2nd array on the same smart 2DH card for the atlas drive...Im still testing...Im about to add drives to make a RAID5 volume. I expect it will work fine but Id rather test it further before putting mission critical data on it

I scored 10x IBM 18gb 1.6" SCA drives on for $70, and accquired some SCA trays, with various dead drives (Compaq 18.2 and 9.1), and dropped my IBMs in, and all works fine.

Just need more SCA trays now.
