HI,

I scan my paintings and then send the scan to a print house to get them printed. The problem is that as I paint on a fine textured canvas I get some reflections in the dark areas especially. These look like hot pixels?

Is there any way i can get rid of these in Photoshop whilst still keeping the high degree of detail I need in the rest of the scan?

I can't see anyway to post an image here so I have put one on the web -
Thanks for any help you can give, this one has me stumped.

...one solution might be to have a duplicate layer of the scan on top, set the layer to multiply and add a layer mask to it, fill the mask with black and then with a soft low opacity brush, paint some of the mask...

...like this...

...another one to save on memory, is to apply a levels adjustment layer, set to multiply and paint on the black filled mask as above...

...a levels layer is much like having the image duplicated just using less memory...

...i would prefer this option really...

...another is you have cs2 is to use the healing brush tool...

HI,

Thanks for the quick reply, very much appreciated.

Yes I have cs2, but I don't do much editing, just used for photgraphs and web images, so I will try the above which all look like they will work, but I might ask for a few more details if you dont mind - if I get stuck.

HI Andrew,

I think your suggestions might be what I am looking for.

Could you give me more details on doing a levels or layer mask if you have time please.

Thanks

Jason

what version of photoshop do you use?

andrew

...ah, yes sorry you already mentioned earlier...

TIP: To quickly change opacity settings of your brush just tap you keypad numbers, i.e:

1 = 10%
2 = 20%
3 = 30%

etc...

0 = 100%

...if you add the shift key and press a keypad number, this will change the flow of the brush...

...for layer opacity and fill, same as above, but you will need to have the move tool selected instead of a brush, the 'V' key is the shortcut for the move tool...
