Hot desking

our company is considering an IP office for our multiple locations, and we have people that travel between them. I understood that you can "hot desk" which is the ability to move your extension to another phone without punching down any cables.

Is this true? Can we do this with digital phones? Also, if I have a user that goes from site a to site b where they would have their own IP office, can they log into a phone over there and have their normal DID follow them?

Yes, you can hotdesk as described within the local site. However I wouldn't use hotdesk as a long term swap - if two people changes offices, take the 90 seconds required and move the patch cables. Hotdesk is great for multiple shifts of agents sharing the same physical phone, or temporary moves.

R3 which is due next month I believe is rumoured to allow you to hotdesk in at a different location, but you can't do it currently. However, there is a straightforward workaround using phantom extensions and coverage that gives you the same net effect - callers can dial your extension and reach you wherever you happen to be logged in.

I heartily endorse IP Office - it's a great solutions with tons of flexibility and features, at an awesome price.

Hotdesking for DS/DT phones will come, but not in the upcoming release 3, it is on the roadmap for spring next year.

Yes, but the promised features in december give them so much worries

, i expect they did not even started with hotdesking
