Internal we have a shared workspace with a 5212 IP Phone that is extension 1230. We have Mitel Border Gateway teleworker setup and a user has extension 4399 at there house. This is the first time I have played with Hot Desking and read the help and setup COS etc.. A few items that confuse me.

In the Multiline IP Set Configuration form , when i set 4399 to a Hot Desk user the MAC Address field disappears, and here is the problem i think that is causing unless i am not setting it up properly. On 1230 I press the feature access key enter in extension 4399 and pin and that works great. The user logs out when they leave and when they head home the phone displays enter pin # and press superkey. When i remove 4399 from hot desking, enter in mac address and reboot it works fine.

Should both 1230 and 4399 be setup as a Hot Desk user or just one?

any help is much appreciated. thanks

There are 2 components to Hotdesking and you are missing 1 at the remote site.

A hotdesk user is a virtual extension that can be logged in at any enabled set. (Such as ext 1230 in your Case)

When converting a desk set to to a hotdesk user you must recreate the Deskphone with an alternate number to allow the deskset to function normally and allow the Hotdesk user to login. If the deskset does not need to be called while the HD user is not logged in then the number can be anything. My suggestion would be 1*4399.

Summarize:
1230 = Extension at office allowing HD Login
New Ext = Extension at remote site allowing HD login
4399 = Hotdesk User to be logged in.

Additionally, I would recommend you enable the COS option to allow remote logout of HD user in this case.

This way, if the user forgets to logout, the user can still be logged in elsewhere.

thanks so much for the quick response like always!

This makes sense to me now..

also, it wont have a mac address if its set as a hotdesk as it will have no physical device.
