Hey!

I was onsite earlier and although I knew about the *999 code, I tried putting a password on both the 1140e and the 2050. The passwords were established on both sets, but when I tried divert on either it said "not allowed" or something like that. Also I was under the impression from memory that if you had this established for example on the phone at the office (1140e) that if you were off prem you could use the 2050 to hot desk that extension when at home not to have to set it before leaving. Is this how it works? I just tried again here and what I did was did *999 pressed DIVERT and then when I enter the extension it gives an error sound and says "not allowed" I click on ADMIN and all it allows me to do is select between displaying "Allow hot desking" and when CHANGE is pressed says "Disallow hot desking". Can I select the hot desking on this phone to take my office extension number home when I get home by perhaps some other code or method?

Just tried it here at home by putting up another 1140e set and it works fine to acquire the other extension which is what I wanted. Unless it's because I was testing it onsite between the same 2050 softphone and the other set was on premises? Tried both ways there and it didn't seem to work. Hmmm.

Side question. Is sofphone 2.02.0264 a later version than softphone 2050 Build 260 from August 2007? CD is from February 2008.

The Nortel softphone at version 2 was the last one that didn't require any keycodes in order for it to function on a BCM or CS1000 system. The Original version was (I think) released via a CD at build 0239.

Nortel released a final upgrade version that could only be installed after the earlier one was done at version 0264 as you have mentioned. I have it installed on a few computers and it still seems fine for me on Windows 10 64 bit.

I think your problem relates to trying the hot desk feature across different set types. Although I haven't tried it, I thought that only a e.g. 1140 to 1140 could be done etc.

Actually it's funny because I've tried between a 1230 and an 1140e set here off-prem and it works fine either way. I'm going to get someone else who has the 1140e set to make sure the hot desking feature is turned on and then try it again here with both the 2050 softphone and the 1230 to see if they can acquire the extension number of the 1140e set. I'll come back later with the results.

Oops! Actually it was tried between the 2050 and the 1230 set here and it works both ways.

I'm sure it has something to do with the number of buttons and the 1230 has less buttons than the 1140 sets. If they aren't the same, then the Hot desking won't be compatible.

Well the 1230 has 12 keys and the 2050 has 6. Those two sets will work for hot desking either way so I'll try now on the 1140e since he's in the office now

Just to be clear and for other whom come across...

"I tried putting a password on both the 1140e and the 2050. The passwords were established on both sets"
You only need to create the password on the original set, it is one time programming.
On any other set you want to Hot desk to the original phone: F*999/Divert/enter DN of original phone/enter password of original set

If it says "not allowed" then the original set did not "allow" hot desking under F*999

"Also I was under the impression from memory that if you had this established for example on the phone at the office (1140e) that if you were off prem you could use the 2050 to hot desk that extension when at home not to have to set it before leaving"

You cannot allow it remotely.
Typically you would set Hot Desking to "Allowed" and forget about it (one time programming).

I just tested a 2050v2 in my office with my test DN at a clients site with 1140e.

"If they aren't the same, then the Hot desking won't be compatible."
If the sets are different the Hot Desking works but you may loose some buttons
Just like when you replace an M7310 with an 08....you will get your intercoms, handsfree and top lines that you have room for.

"Side question. Is softphone 2.02.0264 a later version than softphone 2050 Build 260 from August 2007? CD is from February 2008."
My take
First 3 numbers is the software version
Last 4 numbers is the build
The higher the number the most recent it is, you would look first to the first 3 numbers then look to the last 4 numbers.

canflyguy which version 2050 and windows are you running?

I just loaded 2.02.0264 and it does not work properly on Win 10 64 PRO

Sticking with the trusted 2.00.0239
