Hot/Cold Backup

Can somebody help me about what is hot & cold backup?

Or where can I get information about this in detail.

I have never heard of this notations. I assume cold backup is a simple dump of a database and the hot backup is the use of sybase replication to keep two databases in sync.

cold backup is a dump when the database is offline and hot is when it is online...

checkout the sysadmin manual for backups from the sybase website.
