How to do with hot backups in UNIX? I am quite new to these stuff...could anyone explain to me about the legato network, please.

jeeeeez, now your asking a big question in a small number of words.... unfortunately, there are a lot of "depends on what/how you want to do and with what packages and systems"

Legato in real basic terms will run an agent on the client systems that talk with the Legato Networker Server (or Storage Node) a daemon is run for each tape drive and each tape drive can have multiple streams of data being interleved to or from it at the same time. Indexes of what was backup up and from where and when are held on the networker server to allow for restores. Networker has either a GUI or command line interface and runs on multilpe platforms with the possibility of cross-platform backups, you need various "plugins" named business suite modules to cater for many different packages, say for instance SAP or Oracle Hot Backups. So the real answer to your question is "it depends"... one thing I will say for certain though is that your network and DNS has to be SPOT ON to get Networker installed and working adaquately otherwise you will be living in a world of hurt for a very long time.

Hi Rashid,

As OpenSys say -- it depends upon what applications/databases you're running. What are they?
