Can some one tell me how to protect the hosts file from all these websites that like to redirect them selves to my computer? Every time I look at the hosts file I see all these Bogis websites that the host file picks up I delete the sites and save the host file and when I reopen it the bogis sites are back. There are many pop-up ads I have been recieveing. I need to protect my computer from these pop-ups. I have tried using spyware removers to stop this pop-ups, but to no avail. I believe it made it worse.

I am using spybot, microsoft beta spyware remover, adaware personal, spyblaster, cwshredder and spywareguard 2.2. I have also used Hijack this. Whats next?

Please help I'm a newbie at his!

Please go to the following URL and read about the hosts file and download the HOSTS file on that site.

This will help your PC be protected from most of the nasties out there. Also, make sure you are running a product that will alert you to the fact that something is trying to change your hosts file (MS Antispyware should do that if you have it set to the default settings).

Hope this helps,

Erik

SpyBOT has under the advanced setting, a tool for editing, and innoculating the HOST file aswell as WRITE PROTECTING IT...

Erik:

Thanks for the link to the hosts file. I copied the text version and cleaned it up so that I could copy it into the web filter on my firewall. That way everything is blocked at the gateway.

Cheers.
