Hosts file printer entry

Would adding a printer entry in a hosts file help client computers print directly to the IP address.
e.g 192.168.4.20 \\Server\PrinterName

 
sure. why would you need the host entry though? no DNS setup? if you're referring to a situation where you have a printer set up on the network but don't have it connected to a print server/published in AD then that could/would be part of the solution. the other part would be to load the drivers directly on to the client machine and specify the IP Address during setup.

I hate all Uppercase... I don't want my groups to seem angry at me all the time! =)

Yes DNS is running but I just thought adding it directly would help if the server's are down. I already added all the servers to them via script, so I though why not just add the printers if it would work.
