Hi, using windows 2003 sp2, with no DNS host configured, and using the hosts file. It's not resolving the entered IP addresses.

what's strange, when i try 'ipconfig /displaydns' it reports the ip addresses to the hosts i want to connect to, but it resolves it backwards.

if i ping the IP address, it works, but if i ping the host name... nothing.

Shane
and now for the impressive abbreviations:
DOA, SOL, AWOL, PEBKAC, id10t, FUBAR

try inputting the server ip as its dns entry

thanks Techy... i found the issue...

permissions...

i wasn't the one to set this server up, and some hoople head had modified permissions on the c:\windows\system32\drivers\etc directory, knocking everyone but himself out of that directory...
