In Linux you have a /etc/hosts.deny and in HP-UX you have /var/adm/inetd.sec.
Is there such a facility to block certain IP adresses from accessing an AIX 4.3 system?

Thanks
Francois

francs,

I am afraid in AIX this procedure is a little more complex. It is achieved via the "ipsec" command. Install the following filesets:

bos.net.ipsec.keymgt 4.3.3.0
bos.net.ipsec.keymgt 4.3.3.0
bos.net.ipsec.rte 4.3.3.0

Post installation - smitty tcpip - and two new options have appeared :

configure IPV4 security
configure IPV6 security

If you look at the IBM techdocs database | think that there is something about the ipsec command there. I have set it up twice and both times I had to script in manual changes to get it to work. In this instance perhaps HP provides an easier alternative for once.

Best of luck

I have also found another alternative to ipsec called tcp wrappers. This can be downloaded from It is the same as that implemented on Linux.
