Hi,

Anyone suggest why , if you allow a service for a domain within "hosts.allow" and then deny the same service for ALL others within "hosts.deny" it overrides the "hosts.allow" ?
Apparently this shouldn't happen.

Using AIX4.3.3 RML 8

Thanks.

Hi gower

It does behave like that. What you have to do is:

You can use either hosts.allow or hosts.deny

If u use hosts.deny file...please make the entries for
user vs hosts or services who should be prevented.from..
I believe the entries in hosts.allow and hosts.deny are contradicting each other.
You are putting aix in confusion by making entries in those
two files...The better way to overcome overriding is

Tailor the hosts.deny file as per your your requirement.
Please adhere to hosts.deny file rather than hosts.allow

or
Just use only hosts.allow file only for your purpose.
