How do you change the hostname of the machine.
What files are required to be midified and is there any reboot required.
My concern is whether hostname of a machine can be changed without rebooting the machine.

Thanks

to change hostname permanently, modify below files:
/etc/nodename
/etc/inet/hosts
/hostname.hme0 £¨or some files like this£©
/etc/net/ticlts/hosts
/etc/net/ticots/hosts
/etc/net/ticotsord/hosts
/etc/inet/ipnodes(if not exists,do not need modify)

after files above are modified, issue the cmd "hostname newname"
to change the name without reboot

but some applications use the hostname will still use the old name, you can correct this by restart the applications.

You can change hostname without reboot.

#hostname newname

Edit these files.

1. /etc/hosts
2. /etc/net/ticlts/hosts
3. /etc/net/ticots/hosts
4. /etc/net/ticotsord/hosts
5. /etc/hostname.le0 (For Sparc) /etc/hostname.hme0 (For enterprise system)
