hostname inserted to null domain in To line

whenever there is a piece of email with the "To" header line without a domain (ie. To: "Smith, John"), my mail server would inject its own hostname after the line; the To line becomes To: "Smith, John"@servername.domain.com

what can i change in the cf file to correct this?
