HostName / Google set preferred domain problem

Hi,

In GWMT i'm trying to set the preferred domain.

I got the following error...

Verification error

Part of the process of setting a preferred domain is to verify that you own mortgage-angel.co.uk. We were unable to process the verification. More information.

We attempted verification using the same method you used to verify

Your verification file: google3ce93232881efd.html

The error we encountered when attempting to verify mortgage-angel.co.uk was: We've detected that your 404 (file not found) error page returns a status of 200 (Success) in the header.

You can view more information about the error by clicking on it. Once you have fixed the problem, click the Verify button to attempt verification again.

I found out that it was relating to this MS issue with IIS6

However I've followed the instructions, ive set the hostname on the site i have the problem and the 'default' website and yet G! is still moaning with the same error.

What do I do now?

It was also due to the domain owner not configuring the DNS correctly and so the registrar is redirecting all 404's to their adverts page instead of giving a 404 error!
