Host Name question during Domain U/G

Hi All,

I am going to be upgrading a Windows NT4 domain to Windows 2003.
The existing domain has an Exchange 5.5 server running on an NT4 BDC, which will be upgraded to Exchange 2003.
The server name is server1 and the hostname (found in Network Properties, DNS Tab) for the server is mail1.

The existing domain is called, for example, mydomain.com

During the upgrade, I am going to change the DNS domain name to newdomain.com. This will occur when I introduce my 1st Windows 2003 DC. The Netbios domain name will still be mydomain.com

I then need to put the domain in native mode because of Exchange DL and Public Folder issues. A pre-requisite of that is for all NT4 BDC's to be removed, so I am going to upgrade the BDC running Exchange 5.5 to a W2K or Windows 2003 member server.
When this server is upgraded, it will lose it's host name settings, so it will be seen as server1 (I think)?

What will the hostname change to? Will it be server1.mydomain.com OR server1.newdomain.com OR something else. Remember, I will be upgrading the OS after a new 2003 DC is installed with a new DNS name of newdomain.com

Hope that makes sense,

Thanks

Jon
