A customer was having a lot of internet problems (periodically no internet at all) and they wanted to replace their Comcast gateway regardless. So, I put in a Motorola SB6141 and a Linksys EA6400. All wireless is served by one of three access points, NOT from the router. Everything was fine and then boom, no internet - wired or wireless. After looking at the problem, I determined that the problem had to be internal to the network.
I found a device in the router "list of attached devices" named localhost and it was one of the TrendNet access points. Unplugging the access point (and leaving it unplugged) and restarting the router seemed to get everything working. Since the problem was intermittent, I don't know if I solved the problem or not. Question: Is a device named localhost a problem on a network? Why would an access point have that name?
