Hi,

One of our web servers that's running Redhat Linux is having problems resoling its host name to its IP address. If I try to ping or ssh to the server using the host name, I do not receive a response. Any reason for this? And how can I fix it?

Thanks in advance. by Lastwords,

Hi,

The box that you are using must be able to resolve the name to an IP address. Assuming its not a proper public internet address we're talking about and you don't have an internal dns server, you would just put the mapping between hostname & IP address in your local /etc/hosts or equivalent file. For example, on a M$/Winnt box it would be C:\WINNT\system32\drivers\etc\HOSTS .

Hope this helps

Thx ifincham, but I have fixed the problem now. One of our techies messed up the dns records, and we are sorting it out now.

Cheers. by Lastwords,
