Hello,
I have seen a little bit of documentation that you can assign multiple web sites through IIS with only one IP address by declaring different host header names. However, I can't find a whole lot on it, and messing around with it, I made no progress.

If anyone knows how I can do this, please please let me know! Thank you in advance.

Hi!
What exactly you wants to do? means wants to host diffrent sites with on one IP with diffrent DNS i.e. om 121.234.567.98 and on same IP 121.234.567.98? iis_guru@yahoo.com

Hi!

You have to register the domain first in second step you have use that redirect option i mean u can redirect the comming request to a specific IP on that IP if You have IIS 4.0 you can host many sites from the inetpub folder.
when a user will type this will re-direct the request to 121.234.567.98 on this IP here at c:\inetpub\abc\def
I hope it will help you if there is any problem in this i am here to help you. :) iis_guru@yahoo.com

Hey,
I figured out what the problem was. I had a few host headers configured within the dns server, and I believe that was conflicting with IIS. Now that I cleared that out, there doesn't seam to be a problem when I apply what you said. Thanks for your help!

To redirect to another IP, you select the "home directory" tab within IIS where you would specify a path on the local computer. However, in the list at the top, instead of selecting "A directory located on this computer", select "a redirection to a URL". Then type in your url in the text box, i.e. "
One more thing, if the target site is on a port other than default (port: 80), you will need to specify that as part of the IP address. For instance, pretend you had on IP 255.255.255.255 on port 81. You'd type " in the url/text bar.

Make sense? Hope that helped!

I hate to be confused on this topic, but I am missing this one. I have IIS 4.0. I need to host multiple sites for example and I have registered the domains. Now I need to setup IIS. I believe I need to have different Host Headers because I have only one IP address and would like to only use port 80 so users don't have to append the port number. This is where I lose it. How do you setup IIS from here. Is there detailed instructions somewhere on the web?

Thanks in advance

Do you have a static IP? If so...on the DNS server (or whoever you have the domain names through...point them to your IP address.

Next, once you create the sites within IIS...go to the properties of that site, then on the web site tab, make sure your ip address is selected from the drop down menu, and the TCP Port is set to 80. Then click on "Advanced" button within the "web site" tab (the page you are currently on)...click on the ip address and port you are using (will most likely be only one option there), then click the "edit" button. The new window that opens will display your IP and Port number, and then will have a blank Host Header Name field.

In the host header field, type your web site domain name completely...example, if your site is site1.com, then type in the host header field, " Then click ok, and then ok again and keep going out to set the options. Now, if you want the avialability for the user to see the same wite whether they type in OR then instead of going out of all that, once you setup the site1.com, then click the "add" button, have the same IP and Port selected, however this time in the host header type instead of just site1.com. Now exit out of all that. Now when someone types in OR types they will hit the same site. So now you have two items listed in the advanced section under the "web site" tab within the properties of the site you are editing.

Hope that makes sense and helps...if not, let me know, or contact me on MSN Messanger at UserID: jimbob550@hotmail.com
