host in uk or usa

i am in the uk but host in usa using a .com domain.

i made this decision without knowing too much about ranking and am now finding it difficult to get found in the uk part of google.

is there a way to get found in the uk pages but stay hosting in the usa with a .com domain?
 
Not really.

This article from Ian McCanerin on Local Search should help.

the best order sems to be

.co.uk/.com on a UK IP
.co.uk on a non UK IP

Other than that, you'll have problems.

Yep, I concur with Chris.

I've got the same problem at the moment.
When hosted in the UK my site would rank well on a number of (not particularly competitive terms).
Now I've moved to a US host my site has all but disappeared.

i really dont want to have to change hosts
 

So why not get a co.uk domain and point it to the .com? Or will that pose a problem with ranking as well.

Life would be so much easier if I only had the source code.
