Greets All -
I was wondering if it is possible to have a sharepoint services web and non sharepoint web site on the same box utilizing host headers with single IP.?
I have tried it but only one or the other site will work.
the name of the non sharepoint site is NOT set as "default site"

Can thes coexists on the same box and how?

I don't think you can when using SharePoint 2007. (Haven't tried other versions). In SharePoint 2007 you setup host headers and other website stuff in the central administration site rather than IIS for some bizzare reason.

I think SP basically runs within the whole site, and then the configuration you put into central administration determins redirects and how ASP.Net spits out the site.

Cheers,

Steve.

I would have started a new thread, but I saw this thread and realized this was the place to be.

I am having a little trouble understanding host headers in the context of setting up Sharepoint 2007. In the following article,
which talks about setting up Sharepoint 2007. There is a section which goes like,

Edit:
You could now click the "OK" button but you'll end up with a warning telling you that it's not recommended to host the MySite on the same web application as the Sharepoint Services Provider administration site. So I recommend creating another web application for the MySites.
I did this in my case using a new hostheader "
I looked up some MS sites,
from which I understand that you need host headers to host multiple sites. But I host multiple sites anyways from my IIS 6 and I assign different IP/Port combo to them. But as the following link says,
"host headers allows you to assign multiple Web sites the same IP Address/Port and distinguish them from each other with host headers"

I now know how to create host headers. But could anyone explain, in the context of the SPS 2007 and the first link posted above, how exactly do I create this host header. I would have put this Q in the Sharepoint thread, but I thought this was related to IIS more.

Thanks.

I am not using SP 2007. I am using 3.0 (if that makes a difference)
