In the windows operating system on the PC there is a file called Hosts. This file allows a header in a browser to be assigned to an ip address. So if i was to type in Test_123 in a browser, it would look at the host file and find the IP address for Test_123 and then go to that IP address. Is there such a file on the Mac and if so where is it, and what is it called.

The file is called hosts on a Mac, but doesn't exist until you create it with something like simpletext. It can be saved anywhere.

Once the file is created and saved, open the TCP/IP control panel to the advanced user mode and hit the “Select Hosts” button and point it to the file you just created.
