Host Down errors on GWIA 1

Upgrade service pack to sp5 on 5.5e. Noticed that my host down error that used to be about 10% of messages sent is now running at around 20%. What is normal and how does one go about lowering this stat?

Take one of the addresses that comes back as a host down and ping it, if the ping works, then telnet to in on port 25 and see what happens.

I am receiving a "Destination Host unreachable" on ping.

Then the host is down, the problem is not on your mail system
