Hello group,if my routers are configured with an ip address of 192.168.x.x/24 and a host is on network 69.118.x.x can i configure a static route so that I would be able to ping the address, hopes this makes sense.

your host address needs to match the corresponding interface on the lan. That is to say it needs to be in the same subnet,

for example if your host is connected to Ethernet 0 with the above ip then you either need to change the host to be within thr 192.168.0.0/24 or change the router to 69.118.x.x range.

Another solution is using the ip secondary command, this assigns a second network to a router.

Visit for free Cisco rack access.

Yes you can .. however.. the host at 69.118.x.x needs an appropriate default gateway (i.e. a device on its subnet) to be able to reach devices that are off-net (i.e. not on its subnet).

The router with a 192.168.x.x address should point a route for 69.118.x.x at this default gateway to make this work. Similarly this gateway for 69.118.x.x needs a route for 192.168.x.x via the router you're talking about.

Ok thank you for that advice once again this site is the best at fast answers to questions and in laymens terms for new arrivals.
