Horiz lists display IE 5.2 Mac wrong

Maybe I'm missing something, but my lists work as horizontal navigation in Safari, Firefox, Netscape, and Opera - but not in IE 5.2 for Mac.

Does anyone have an opinion on whether that should concern me? As a longtime mac user I only keep the old browser for testing purposes.

Actually just check on IE 6 for Windows - not working either - just a big list.

Can someone peek and see what I might have missed for fix?

Nevermind - my stupidity - had the a set to display:block and was screwing it all up. Though removing the display did take away the nice line-height fix Vragabond had given me for displaying the background. Adjusting padding helped there.
